If you have looked at any of my posts, you will have noticed that I give all programs a gem score out of 5 but what do I base this score on?
Well, there are a few different factors that I look at, as I can’t actively try all of these programs myself, which are:
Brand Strength – brands that are well-known and have a good reputation will be rated higher because these brands often convert better (from experience of dealing with established brands and start-ups).
Commission – I rate programs that offer good commissions higher because it increases the chances of affiliates being able to make decent money from the partnership, with high single payouts and good percentage recurring commissions being rated the highest, only topped by the holy grail of a good single payout and a decent recurring commission.
Cookie Length – I look at 30-days as the default, with longer cookies being more favorable, with an added bonus if they attribute the commission on a first click basis.
Payouts – I look at 1-2 months between referral and payout being the default, with shorter payout windows being preferred. I also consider minimum payment thresholds and payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal etc and whether the payouts are automated or not.
This helps me assess the programs from my perspective of being an affiliate marketer and partnering with many different programs, some of which have been great and others, pretty rubbish.
